As a nurse and an avid camper, I am always looking for different emergency kits and medical supplies to add to my collection. (I'm kind of a freak when it comes to being prepared for medical emergencies 😂 You just never know when an emergency will happen and being prepared with the right tools could mean the difference between life and death for someone!) Sooooo, when I got the opportunity to snag this Sumpri Camping First Aid Kit at an absolute steal of a price in exchange for my thoughts on it, I jumped right on it!!
My first impressions: I love that it is in a waterproof casing 💧 (don't put this case in the dishwasher though, it can cause discoloration 😉) The zipper is good quality - sturdy, easy to open and close 👍 It is small enough to fit just about anywhere 🙌
AND
The kit has a cool climbing clip (carabiner) on it so you can clip it to things - especially nice if you are going to be hiking 😍
I was so excited to get this kit open and explore all the goodies inside!
Look at how nice and neat everything is packed in here! |
Time for the best part of getting a new Emergency Kit!!
Opening it all up to see what's in it!
Exploring the SUMPRI Camping First Aid Kit
As you can see there are three different 'pockets' in which items are stored.
The first 'pocket' that stands out is the clear plastic 'pocket' that is on top of one of the side 'pockets'.
Contained within is a pair of tweezers, a set of safety pins and a whistle
I'm not going to lie, the whistle threw me off a little... As soon as I seen it, I was thinking why did they put a rape whistle in a camping first aid kit - not that someone couldn't get raped while camping, just saying I honestly have never seen one in a first aid kit before!! Obviously, after some thought, I realized that it's probable intended purpose is to be able to blow the whistle while out in the woods so someone can hear it and possibly come to your rescue if you found yourself in an emergency situation. Kuddos SUMPRI 🎉 for thinking this idea up and sticking into your kit!!
I wonder if all the whistles that come in the kit are this color? Let me know if you purchase one what color yours came in!! |
Obviously, the tweezers are a nice addition to the kit. These will come in very handy in a camping situation as there is always the risk of getting a splinter from wood or glass.
The safety pins could come in handy for a variety of different reasons - in the emergency situation realm, they could help to secure a makeshift sling 💪
Lets look 👀 at what goodies are in the 'pocket' under this one.
Two different sized Sterile Gauze Pads - 2x2 and 10x10 (both good sizes to have handy)
One small Elastic Bandage - it's a mesh wrap that you can use for a multitude of different situations. Honestly it's the best item in the First Aid Kit because it is so versatile in its application of uses. Anything from wrapping an injury to making a sling to anything in between.
And
A First Aid Blanket (this is my favorite thing in the kit 😉)

A First Aid Blanket (this is my favorite thing in the kit 😉)
It's so cute and tiny in it's package, but don't let that fool you!! It's quite large! (4 feet 3 inches in width by 6 feet 10 inches in length)
I find these blankets so neat! They are so paper thin and see through yet they hold in body heat like none other 🔥 and..... they make cool capes 😂
NOTICE: Once you remove the blanket from it's pouch and open it up - it is nearly impossible to get it back in 😂😂 (obviously if your using the blanket in an emergency situation you would not try to get it back into the pouch for re-use as this is a one time use only BUT if your like me and you feel the need to play with it, just know that it's a chore to get it back in there nicely)
Time to see whats in the last pocket 😎
There is a variety of different wipes:
Four Sting Relief Pads for use when you get bug bites, minor burns and small scrapes - these wipes have a medication called Benzocaine in them which is a numbing agent. These are super handy to have around when camping or hiking.
Four Alcohol Prep Pads for use with just about anything from cleaning around a wound (never use directly on an open wound!) to cleaning an area of skin before an injection is given. These are handy to have on hand as they are nice to use even as a cleaner for your hands - just be careful as they do dry out the skin!
Four Povidone-Iodine Prep pads - this is the wipe you can clean cuts and scrapes with. It will kill off yeast, bacteria, protozoa, fungus and some viruses. You use this before putting your band aid on a wound.
and
Four Antiseptic Wipes for use to clean around wounds or your hands before tending to a small wound or scrape.
This kit gets a thumbs up 👍 for making sure the wipes they sent are not expired or expiring soon! (unfortunately I've had that happen more than a few times with other kits 😧)
There is a blue tourniquet - useful if you need to tie off a limb in an emergency situation or for non medical situations you could use it to keep something together or tie something to something else.... It's a nice, useful elastic band. The one I got in my kit was newer - I did not note any dry rot in the band and it was still easily elastic. (unfortunately these do dry rot and become unusable so make sure you check on yours every few weeks to make sure the elasticity is still easily stretching and returning to it's original form)
An Adhesive Eye Patch
A pack of Cotton Swabs (one ended q-tips)
A small roll of Paper Medical Tape
Let me just say, I think paper tape is the WORST. I highly recommend you pre-open the tape that comes in this kit if you are going to keep it in there or just flat out exchange it for a different medical tape. The one that came in mine took me over 3 minutes of precious time to get the end lifted up to be able to use it and then it just shred as I tried to pull it to get a small piece off of it. This is not to say yours won't be the same in your kit but I, as a nurse, NEVER use paper tape unless it is absolutely necessary to do so. (so I never use it, ever)
The last of the 'equipment' in the kit is a small pair of scissors. These little guys are cute but not really useful for anything. They are not sharp enough or strong enough to cut through clothing (they barely cut through the 2x2 gauze pad - see video below) and there is nothing in the kit that would need to be cut with them.
Included with the kit is a handy guide for quick and easy CPR instructions and directions on how to care for a variety of different emergency situations one could encounter while out in nature.
All in all, my opinion of this Sumpri Camping First Aid Kit is favorable, however, while this kit has a good variety of supplies, it is not by any means enough to stand alone. What I mean is that there are multiple things that you will need to add to this kit to really make it a good emergency kit to have on hand at all times. Here's what I would add in: gloves!! at least one pair, a small sterile water syringe, steri-strips for closing medium sized wounds, a single dose of Ibuprofen OR Naproxen, a single dose of Tylenol and a single dose of Aspirin. Maybe it's the nurse in me but these are staples in all of my emergency kits 😷
Just by adding these small additions, the kit becomes exponentially more useful in an emergency situation AND these would all fit into the case with the rest of the items in there. Of course, if you had a bigger kit, I would recommend many more items to really be prepared... but for this small kit, it does, at a minimum, cover most of the basics of minor medical incidences that can, and do, happen when camping.
I hope you enjoyed this review of the Sumpri Camping First Aid Kit!
