The Demigod Complex
by Abigail Owen
Genre: Paranormal Romance

When Lyleia Naiad was head-hunted by Brimstone, Inc., for her job as Executive Assistant to a high-powered billionaire demigod, she was given one directive—do NOT fall in love with Castor Dioskouri. Doesn’t matter if he is the son of Zeus and can electrify a room with a single glance. As an ex-nymph, she possesses a unique ability—a gift from the goddesses to protect nymphs from the randy gods—to resist her boss's charms.

Or so she thought.

He insists she accompany him to an alpha wolf shifter mating ceremony, an event where the pheromones fly, and so do clothes...and inhibitions.

Goddesses save her, because Castor has stolen into Lyleia’s heart, and she’s not so sure she can hold out much longer..

Castor was on his feet, in her space before he remembered making the decision to move. He managed to keep from touching her. “Forgive me.”
Lyleia’s eyes widened. “Nothing to forgive.” Only her lips remained stiff around the words.
“Don’t. Don’t do that. My comment was thoughtless.” Castor couldn’t remember the last time he’d apologized. To anyone.
Based on the confused crinkle between her brows, Lyleia was thinking the same. “It’s fine.”
She stood and somehow managed to scooch around him. “It’s late anyway.” She glanced at the thin-banded watch on her wrist. “And you have that charity event at eight.”
Damn. He’d almost forgotten about that.
Castor remained where he was behind his desk and watched his assistant gather her computer, notepad, and various folders, and walk away from him, a gulf seeming to grow between them with every step. Hips swaying in what he knew for sure was an unconscious grace, she did her version of hurrying to the door, clearly wanting to get away. From him dammit.
“Black tie,” she shot over her shoulder. “Don’t forget.”
As she closed the door, a white paper slipped to the ground, sliding across the hardwood floor with a whisper of sound.
Castor moved around his desk to pick up the envelope and had his hand outstretched for the doorknob to take it into Lyleia’s adjoining office only to pause at the sight of his name printed in her neat, looping handwriting.
Why hadn’t she given this to him?
Curious, he pulled out the single, type-written page.
“Dear Mr. Dioskouri,” it started.
Castor frowned. Not since the first week, when he’d corrected her a thousand times, had Lyleia addressed him so formally.
A frown furrowed his brown and descended to a scowl the more he read.
“I hereby tender my resignation…”
No.
Castor went back to his desk and sat down, smoothing out Lyleia’s letter of resignation on the blotter and staring at it.
She was leaving him?
He’d thought… Dammit. He’d hoped. Stupidly apparently.
Forgetting the tux hanging in his private apartment one floor above, and the charity event he was slated to be speaking at in an hour, Castor leaned back in his chair and swiveled around to face the Austin skyline lit up outside his penthouse window. Not really seeing.

The question was, did he just let her go? Or did he do something about this?
